About This Project
The original one hundred plus year old barn on this site had succumbed to gravity and blackberries. We reclaimed the site and built this owner designed barn/studio/garage/workshop that brings together rammed earth base elements with SIP panel construction to create a building with a strong stance and outstanding thermal performance.
Other interesting details are local sawn fir siding, and Taylor metal siding applied horizontally. The rammed earth was installed by Ken Christison, The Shelterra Group LLC of San Juan Island. They used local materials and sent test cylinders which passed engineering for structural and seismic loads.
